He foresaw a great potential in the hospitality industry in the town which hitherto lacked hygienic dining and comfortable lodging spaces. The industry and the tourism were picking up pace in and around the town. There was desperate need among the visitors for quality board and lodge facilities. Since the extended family of the promoters was already in the hotel industry somewhere else, thus Mr. Sahu acquired nuances of the running and effectively managing of a quality hotel. He widely travelled both in domestic as well as international circuits, staying in some of the best hotels and observing with a keen eye the management of hotels across India and the globe. He grabbed the opportunity to come up with a hotel of his own after assessing the potential of the market.
He dedicated his time worked hard to come up with the finest property in the town that opened its doors for the public in the year 1988. The hotel had great facilities, ambience coupled with some of the best dining places thus filling in the existing void both for the tourists and the locals who until then were yearning for decent places to stay and dine out with families and friends. That way Apsara was the first in town to come up with a multi – cuisine restaurant managed by qualified chefs & managers. It was a runaway hit, being managed by efficient and experienced staff. He was ably supported by his better half Mrs. Padma Sahu at every step from the inception. The zeal to provide the best facilities and better experience had prompted the management to go for a complete overhaul and refurbishment of the hotel in the year 2010 after a successful run of 22 years.
The new and spruced up Apsara reopened in the spring of 2013 in its present modern form with eye pleasing interiors, ultramodern bathrooms, LED screens with DTH television (Tata Sky), Free Wi-Fi network for the guests. The rooms are segregated into deluxe, executive & suites also a mini conference space is added to it. There are the multi cuisine diner – Zaika & Lounge bar Nasha. All other trimmings of standard hotel like a travel desk, doctor on call, cab – on pay basis being in place. The property has been remodeled but the personnel and service did not digress from their allegiance to the management, efficiency and dedication to duty. The staff from front office, room service, housekeeping, kitchen, administration and every other department across the hotel has put its best foot forward to bring back the earlier charm that was familiar to them over the years.
The hotel management system has also undergone a bit of transformation, Mrs. Padma Sahu has donned the mantle of the Managing Director, Mr. Amar Kumar Sahu and their son, Mr. Vivek Kumar Sahu have joined the board as fulltime directors. Mr. Amar Kumar Sahu is the guiding force and Vivek, who is an avid traveller, is actively involved with the day to day management of the hotel along with his parents. At the moment the hotel is adequately staffed in all the departments and working with the same old zeal keeping in mind, the needs and comfort of the guests 24 X 7, 365. One has to check- in to the hotel to experience some of the amenities that the hotel extends to them which no other hotel in the town can even promise.
